The Reading List Foundation (RLF) acknowledges its duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We are committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities and government guidance.
Our policy recognises that the welfare and interests of children, young people and vulnerable adults are paramount in all circumstances. It aims to ensure that regardless of age, gender, religion or beliefs, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or socio-economic background, those that come into contact with the foundation have a positive and enjoyable experience and are protected from abuse.
The RLF comes into contact with children and / or vulnerable adults through the provision of financial sponsorship in the form of Reading List Scholarships. These scholarships represent the average cost of a student’s first year reading list and are provided to exceptional individuals making the transition to university from state-funded schools and colleges across England.
This policy seeks to ensure that the RLF undertakes its responsibilities with regard to protection of children and / or vulnerable adults and will respond to concerns appropriately. The policy establishes a framework to support staff in their practices and clarifies the organisation’s expectations.
